Loft Ensemble in North Hollywood is now presenting the second production of its 10th anniversary season, the world premiere of Mass Graves by Cris Eli Blak. A group of men, struggling with the consequences of their past actions, try to recover their lives inside a confined halfway house. As their cohabitants and families start closing in, each is forced to confront the crimes they committed. Can they redeem themselves or will the past keep pushing them to the edge? Directed by Matt Lorenzo, the cast features Antwan Alexander II, Tor Brown, Mace Bullington, Paul Davis, Les “Eljaye” Jennings, Jemeryas Jordan, Ignacio Navarro, Jazmine Nichelle, Jessica Perkins, Jeff Pitts, Esteban Vasquez, and Aya Washington. Mass Graves runs through October 23.

Loft is one of the few NoHo Arts District theatres that came through the pandemic shutdown relatively unscathed. This season’s plays represent a desire to celebrate new voices while re-examining the fundamentals of theatrical storytelling. Between now and next August, Loft will be presenting five more world premieres (Mrs. Dilber’s Fabulous Bedcurtains, Katrina, Gifted, Behind the Six, Penthesilea) and a West Coast premiere (Missed Opportunities). This group of talented artists has won several Valley Theatre Awards and two Ovation Awards, and they’ve earned five BroadwayWorld Award nominations along with a combined 28 Valley Theatre Award nominations in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Admission for all shows is Donate What You Want. Seriously, how can you go wrong?
