LA Cha Cha Chá

Cha Cha Chá in Downtown LA

DTLA restaurant LA Cha Cha Chá is the sister spot of Terraza Cha Cha Chá in Mexico City, with a similar mid-century modern, Acapulco, and Palm Springs-inspired space.

The indoor-outdoor space with West-facing views of DTLA feels like a lush garden, albeit one with hip mid-century modern furnishings. The menu is refreshingly uncomplicated yet inventive with a round-up of botanas, platos principales and well-crafted desserts. The tostada terraza takes a crisp tortilla and piles on lush bluefin tuna with a flutter of fragrant crispy cilantro and a drizzle of chile morita aioli; pollo a las brasas is perfectly roasted and dressed with an achiote piquin sauce. Callos en Salsa Negra: My favorite scallop dish with yuzu, passionfruit and spice that reminded me of Tajin. It was tangy, refreshing, cool, with a hint of spice. It comes with plain tostada to make a perfect bite. But, the perfect dish that makes my mouth water thinking about it even now is the taco de Hongos. I loved the oyster mushroom and the Tostada Monumento. My second favorite was the octopus tostada done masterfully and cooked perfectly.

The Mexican restaurant sits atop a rooftop in the Arts District, and strikes that balance between fun and casual, while also being downright beautiful.
