Just steps away from the Venice boardwalk you’ll find Barnyard, a charming neighborhood restaurant where Chef Jesse Barber (from Tasting Kitchen) brings an inventive array of small plates to local foodies with a sophisticated palate. They offer an extensive selection of craft beers and many wines to choose from in a fun, laid back atmosphere inside or out on the enclosed patio.

During our recent visit, we started with the grilled bread, daily cheese plate and the Squash Terrine. We were impressed at how much flavor each dish had on its own. We also tried the Kobe Burger and the Portabello Mushroom Sandwich, both of which were packed with flavors and dripped with juicy goodness. I especially liked the dipping sauce that came with the Fries—it was a hot/cold sensation with crème fraîche and a spicy harissa sauce that was slightly addicting.

Other notable dishes are the Braised Octopus, Risotto, Warm Beets, and for dessert, the Sticky Toffee Pudding, but my favorite was the Galette, stuffed with strawberries. I’m looking forward to trying the waffles for brunch sometime soon. For fresh from farm to table, local and thoughtfully prepared dishes at the right price, try Barnyard if you are in Venice.

Barnyard Venice is located at 1715 Pacific Ave in Venice. They are open nightly for Dinner, Lunch Wed-Sat, and feature Brunch on Sundays. Call 310-581-1015 for reservations.
