I confess. I love watching The L.A. Complex. As much as I like to consider myself a fine arts connoisseur, the truth is that I enjoy watching twenty-something Abercrombie types enmeshed in spicy dramas that I am no longer young and hip enough to be involved with.
The L.A. Complex follows the sexy highs and gritty lows of a group of attractive and aspiring young artists (actors, dancers, comedians, hip-hop musicians) doing whatever it takes to make it as they speed and stumble down the not-so-glamorous path to stardom. A fallen actress/bitch (Jewel Staite) resorts to networking at AA meetings years after her hit TV series is cancelled. A struggling modern dancer (Chelan Simmons) pays the bills by stripping. Did I mention they all live in the same Hollywood motel?
When Abby (Cassie Steele) wakes up after a night of unprotected sex, she rushes off to a big audition, but not before newly successful (and self-mutilating) TV actor/hunk Connor Lake (Jonathan Patrick Moore) offers her a morning after contraceptive and a bite to eat. “Breakfast AND an abortion pill?” Abby says. “And they say there are no good guys in LA.”
It all makes me want to work at The Cheesecake Factory and get a new set of headshots.
The L.A. Complex airs Tuesdays at 9pm on The CW Network.
