As a child I was traumatized when my parents took me to see Ridley Scott’s Alien. While I wasn’t inappropriately young to see the film, I was perhaps over sensitive to these types of films. I had little interest in any of the subsequent films. It wasn’t until the recent resurrection of the franchise with Promethius that I began to take an interest again. I have now seen most, if not all, of the films, the good and the bad. I am excited to say I am really looking forward to “Alien: Romulus.” Romulus is the 7th film in the franchise and was directed by Fede Alvarez and co-written with Rodo Sayagues. Alien: Romulus is a standalone interquel set between the events of Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986).

57 years pass while the sole survivor of the USCSS Nostromo, Ellen Ripley, is floating in deep space, so that’s a big gap during which more stories could be set. In Alien: Romulus a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe while scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station. The film stars Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), David Jonsson (Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy), and Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone). Alien: Romulus is based on characters created by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett and is produced by Ridley Scott (Napoleon), who directed the original Alien and produced and directed the series’ entries Prometheus and Alien: Covenant.

Released theatrically by 20th Century Studios on August 16, 2024.
