Into our strange new world of shuttered theatres, museums, restaurants, department stores, and practically everything else, arts organizations around the world are taking advantage of their video resources in the hope of entertaining the quarantined masses. The internationally renowned Cirque du Soleil is no exception, having uploaded a plethora of content to its website at www.cirquedusoleil.com. Log on and you will find a content hub called CirqueConnect. Their message to fans: “We’re offering an escape from everyday life through the delight and whimsy of our shows. Now more than ever, we want to do our little part to spread joy, even from afar, directly to your safe spaces. Let us welcome you into our world where awe-inspiring show footage and fan favorite videos will transport you. Just for you, from us.”

The watching and listening options are many! There are jaw-dropping excerpts from Alegria, Kooza, KÀ, Kurios, O, Luzia, Amaluna, Bazzar, and Volta (which was just finishing up its LA engagement when quarantines went into effect). These performers defy the limits of human dexterity — it is absolutely mesmerizing! There’s even a singalong featuring songs from Alegria and Kurios. And there’s still more — how about the Cirque It Out Ab Workout? Or the Color Me Cirque makeup tutorial? The site has a section dedicated exclusively to content for kids: learning to juggle and dance and family face painting. Don’t forget to watch the preparations for Cirque’s first ice show, Crystal!
